The Dangers of Distracted Driving
A nationwide study of driving habits ranked Florida drivers as the second worst country-wide for being distracted behind the wheel.
Florida's score was 49th, in a close second to Louisiana, in a state-by-state analysis. The study revealed that up to 92% of drivers use their cellphones while in a moving car.
"This study shows there are a lot of careless and unconcerned drivers on our roads. There has been a sharp rise in auto accidents and fatalities on our roads and distracted driving is likely a primary cause." says Scott Donaldson, attorney.
Florida is one of only four states that does not make texting while driving a primary offense, which means that unless the police stop a driver for another reason, such as speeding, the driver cannot be pulled over just because they're texting.
Greater enforcement is necessary because of the correlation between the prohibition of phone use while driving and safer roads.
